A delighted Angga said: “The pressure was on them as the higher seeds and we had nothing to lose. That helped us a lot. We played very well today.”
Angga-Ryan will now face eighth seeded Chinese pair Chai Biao-Guo Zhendong.
Adrianti, who had to play in the qualifying rounds, is the only Indonesian left in the women’s singles after beating Taipei’s Tai Tzu Ying 19-21, 21-14, 21-14. She will face China’s Jiang Yanjiao for a place in the semi-final against either China’s world No. 3 Wang Yihan or Germany’s Juliane Schenk. Schenk booked her place in the last eight when she beat Sayaka Sato 21-11, 21-11.
The tie of the women’s draw will see India’s Saina Nehwal taking on Denmark’s Tine Baun for a chance to play either Liu Xin of China or Taipei’s Cheng Shao Chieh in the semi-finals.
Malaysia’s former world No. 1s Wong Pei Tty-Chin Eei Hui reached the women’s doubles quarter-finals after a hard fought 17-21 21-18 21-13 over Canada’s Nicole Grether-Charmaine Reid.
Pei Tty, who has only recently comeback from a serious knee injury, admitted she was thinking of giving up after losing the first game.
"There were moments I wanted to give up. The Canadians were fighting so hard and we lost our rhythm. It will only get tougher from now on but at least we are showing progress,” said Pei Tty.
