"Indonesia Open Super Series 2011" Wang Xin’s topsy-turvy season continues

World No. 2 Wang Xin, who celebrated her first OSIM BWF World Superseries title of the year in Singapore on Sunday, was stunningly eliminated from the Djarum Indonesia Open Superseries Premier on Wednesday.
Tai Tzu Ying (1st round, screams with delight)The Chinese ace, who ended a nine-month Superseries drought when she defeated Denmark’s Tine Baun three days ago, was knocked out by Taipei’s Tai Tzu Ying (left), who won their opening round match 15-21, 21-15, 21-19 in 48 minutes.
It was the pair’s second ever meeting, with Wang Xin winning their first encounter in straight games at the Yonex Sunrise Hong Kong Open Superseries six months ago.
The defeat ended Wang Xin’s bid to win her third consecutive Open title. She had added the Yonex Sunrise Malaysia Open Grand Prix Gold to her collection in May.
It was also the second time this season she has lost in the opening round this season. Rated as a potential winner of this year’s World Championships which will be held in London in August, Wang Xin was knocked out of the opening round of the Badminton Asia Championships by Japanese qualifier Mitani Minatsu.
In her three other OSIM BWF World Superseries tournaments prior to Singapore, Wang Xin was knocked out by Wang Yihan in the semi-finals in Malaysia, South Korea’s Sung Ji Hyun in the last eight in Seoul while she suffered a semi-final defeat at the All England to team mate and current world No. 1 Wang Shixian. She skipped the India Open in May.
There was also another upset on the opening of the US$600,000 tournament as fifth seeded South Korean Bae Youn Joo was knocked out by Germany’s Juliane Schenk (right), in three tough games lasting 66 minutes.
Juliane SchenkSchenk, who is searching for her first OSIM BWF World Superseries title of her career, won 15-21, 22-20, 21-14.
World No. 1 Wang Shixian and Denmark’s Tine Baun stayed on course for a semi-final meeting when they reached Thursday’s second round in contrasting styles.
Wang Shixian cruised past Japan’s Ai Goto 21-9, 21-17 while Baun, who defeated her Chinese opponent for the first time in the semi-finals in Singapore, was made to work hard by South Korea’s Sung Ji Hyun before prevailing 21-18, 19-21, 21-12.
